December’s over. You’ve decked the halls, baked cookies, ate cookies, hosted cocktail parties, imbibed said cocktails and stayed out way too late all month long.  Now your paying the price with dull, dry, dehydrated, irritated skin! Basically a hot mess. Well, I am.

Don’t freak out Party Girl!! I’ve got the solutions to remedy all your bad behavior!

The culprits below will cause the skin to look dull, dry and irritated and while each treatment is a little different, I do suggest a prepping mask before all of them to exfoliate the dull dead skin cells.  Look for pumpkin, papaya, pineapple or cranberry enzymes mixed with a lactic acid for the best gentle exfoliation out there!

SIN 1- Lack of sleep means your skin hasn’t had the chance to do all the repair work it usually does. What to do? A barrier repair treatment is just the thing! Look for one with healing ingredients like Shea, Mango and Cocoa Butters. After cleansing and using your prep mask just slather it on and relax or better yet sleep in it!

May I suggest a little DIY here?

Pick out a couple of butters
Melt together  in a double boiler until just melted, don’t heat for too long, otherwise you will destroy nutrients!
Remove from the heat and stir in a carrier oil such as grape seed oil or jojoba oil.
Cool in the fridge for 15 to 30 minutes or until slightly firm.
Whip for 10 solid minutes!
Add Rosehip Seed Oil, as an anti-oxidant and whip a bit more.
Store at room temperature preferably out of direct light.
The big bonus here is you can use this as a face mask, a hair mask and a body cream!

SIN 2- Too much sugar = glycation which literally means sugars are crystallizing on your collagen and elastin fibers, causing damage in the form of wrinkles and less than supple skin! Time for some serious skincare! Look for these ingredients to prevent and reduce glycation. I suggest getting a Mack Daddy serum that contains some of these ingredients and make using it 1-2 times per day your New Years Resolution!

SIN 3- Alcohol is very dehydrating so whats needed here is a re-hydrating sheet mask. That and an uptake in your water consumption! Look for a mask with high levels of Hyaluronic Acid to bring up the moisture content in your skin. Use it a few times per week until your skin starts to plump back up! And have a glass or 8 or water! Drinking more water daily is high on my list of New Years Resolutions!
