When exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light even after harvesting, natural ergosterols in mushrooms produce a big does of vitamin D2.

Amino Acids

They also contain the amino acid L-ergothioneine or ETT which help prevent cellular breakdown and studies show that ETT depleted cells are more sensitive to oxidative stress, resulting in increased mitochondrial DNA damage, protein oxidation and lipid peroxidation and eventually to apoptosis aka cell death! Yikes!
