Free radicals are atoms or molecules with an unpaired electron, which makes them unstable. Because of this, they’re looking for stability through any other electron they can attach to. A free radical snatches an electron from another molecule, which leaves the left over electron unstable and it then snatches an electron from another molecule, causing a Free Radical Cascade, leaving damaged skin cells in it’s wake!
Where do free radicals come from? Free radicals can be caused by both internal & external factors. They are created when molecules absorb UV energy, but things like metal & petroleum based particles in pollution, smoke, stress, and an unhealthy diet, can also cause them!
Why should I care? Well, because Free Radicals damage your DNA!
